To kill the Xmas and New Year's boredom, I recently watched two mini-series on Netflix. Time for a quick review.

I'll start with "1670" - a Polish comedy-historical series loosely based on events from the year 1670. The action takes place in the village of Adamczycha, divided between two noblemen. There are plenty of gags and wordplays - sometimes pretty amusing - as well as excellently done costumes and decorations. The cast is relatively unknown - I personally didn't recognize any of the actors, though a more experienced reader might recognize one or two. The series is indeed comedy-historical (not historical-comedy), with many references to modern times, and it's more about amusing the viewer than showing any factual fidelity. So far, there is only one season (eight episodes), but there are already rumors about filming a second one - apparently, the crew had a great time on set, there was chemistry, and the series is also a huge success abroad. My rating: 9/10. Pretty good.

The second series on today's list is "Fubar" with seventy-seven-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger and a few lesser stars (I immediately recognized Travis Van Winkle, known to me earlier from his role as Lieutenant Green in the "The Last Ship" series). Arnold plays a CIA officer who is about to retire. Just one more mission and he can relax. During this mission, Arnold's character Luke discovers that his favorite daughter also works for the Agency - the series turns out to be a family comedy with action elements. Yes, there are explosions, beatings, and limb cutting with a circular saw, but it's still a family comedy, perfect for watching over a few afternoons (eight episodes) on a long weekend or other holidays. My rating: 8/10. Not bad.
